Egyptian imports need an early decision on customs data and documents, not only the vessel arrival. Alexandria-area terminals, Port Said and Cairo-related cargo flows serve different destinations and clearance arrangements.

Seaports and air cargo gateways

A shipment headed to Greater Cairo may warrant different inland handling from a consignment for Alexandria or the Suez Canal industrial corridor. Verify the terminal, import entry point and warehouse location before estimating the final haul.

Selected sea gateways used for initial planning: Alexandria (EGALY), Port Said (EGPSD). These codes are location references, not proof of a particular vessel call or a terminal booking. Airports worth checking for a relevant cargo schedule include CAI (IATA). Confirm live service, terminal, restrictions and airport cargo facilities before booking.

Where the cargo actually needs to go

Construction equipment, manufactured inputs and retail goods can require different national approvals. Container arrival should be coordinated with the importer’s document readiness rather than assumed to guarantee immediate release.

Inland-delivery detail that belongs on the booking instruction: Check ACI applicability, consignee and exporter identifiers, commercial document consistency, and delivery access at the Egyptian destination. A port or airport name alone is not an adequate delivery address; include the consignee's receiving rules in the first quote request.

Choosing sea, air, road or intermodal

Container shipping is often the starting option for planned cargo; air cargo via Cairo can be considered for urgent permissible goods. Transport between the seaport and final city has to be priced and scheduled separately.

Missing or mismatched advance-shipment references can disrupt document acceptance. Confirm the importer’s broker has validated current ACI, commercial invoice and any commodity-specific clearance steps before loading.

Customs responsibility and documents

Egyptian Customs operates an advance cargo information process (ACI); the importer and exporter should establish applicable pre-shipment data and identification requirements for the shipment. Do not issue a booking on the assumption that paperwork can always be repaired on arrival.

Agree in writing who is the importer/exporter of record, who prepares declarations, and who pays duties, handling and destination fees. Commodity classification, origin and any required licence must be checked against current official instructions; this guide does not provide a customs decision.

A practical route-planning example

For spare machinery parts needed in a Cairo plant, compare a conventional seaport arrival with an air consignment through CAI where practical. Whichever mode is chosen, appoint the party responsible for required pre-arrival filings.

Make the rate comparison consistent: same packed goods, same origin and delivery point, same Incoterms® rule, same expected delivery condition and a clear list of excluded charges. Published transit times and prices have intentionally not been guessed here.
